Finasteride brands and prices in India

Medical review pendingWritten by the HairLoss99 editorial teamPrices checked 2026-10-14

The short version: finasteride 1 mg is a prescription medicine. Every licensed 1 mg tablet contains the same active ingredient, so the main difference between brands is price. You'll need a prescription from a registered doctor, in person or through a teleconsultation.

We don't link to buying finasteride. These prices are for comparison only, so you know what's fair when your doctor prescribes it.

Prices checked on 14 October 2026 on PharmEasy, Tata 1mg, Apollo Pharmacy and a copy of the Jan Aushadhi list. Every pharmacy page we checked marks finasteride as prescription required. Prices change, so check at the pharmacy. Source data: research/data/rx-and-ketoconazole-prices-2026-10.csv

Finasteride 1 mg tablets (hair loss dose)

Brand Manufacturer Pack MRP Price seen ≈ Cost / month (30 tablets)
Jan Aushadhi generic PMBJP (supplier not named) 10 tablets ₹15 — ≈ ₹45
Finpecia Cipla 15 tablets ₹151 ₹139 (1mg) ≈ ₹278
Finax Dr. Reddy's 30 tablets ₹391 ₹290 (PharmEasy) · ₹360 (1mg) ₹290–360

Finasteride 5 mg (prostate dose)

5 mg tablets are made for an enlarged prostate (for example Fincar by Cipla, ₹201 for 10 on PharmEasy; Finast by Dr. Reddy's). Some people split them to save money. Don't do this without your doctor's advice. Splitting gives uneven doses, and crushed or broken tablets are a risk to pregnant women in the home.

Topical finasteride and combination solutions

We couldn't find a finasteride-only spray or solution sold by Indian pharmacies in October 2026. Every topical finasteride product we found was combined with minoxidil.

Branded kits that contain finasteride

Some hair-loss kits include finasteride (tablet or topical) alongside oils, shampoos and supplements. Compare the cost of the finasteride on its own with the kit price before deciding. → Traya decoded · Man Matters decoded

How to get a prescription

  1. In person: a dermatologist (best) or a general physician. Bring photos of your hair over time if you have them.
  2. Teleconsultation: registered doctors can prescribe after a video or audio consultation under India's Telemedicine Practice Guidelines.
  3. What a legitimate prescription includes: the doctor's name, registration number, your name, the medicine, dose and duration.

Red flags when buying: sites that sell finasteride without asking for a prescription, unclear manufacturers, or prices far below the usual range. These raise the risk of fake or wrong-strength tablets.

Is generic as good as branded?

Licensed generics must contain the same active ingredient at the same strength. In practice, consistency of supply and buying from a licensed pharmacy matter more than the brand name.
