How to read hair research

Mouse studies, press releases and "539% better": how not to be fooled.

In India

No JAK inhibitor was found to carry a confirmed CDSCO-approved alopecia-areata indication in India as of this research pass; baricitinib generics are sold in India but apparently for other approved indications (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis), not confirmed for AA.

This is the single most important India-specific gap identified: none of baricitinib, ritlecitinib, deuruxolitinib, or upadacitinib could be confirmed as CDSCO-approved for alopecia areata in India. Indian patients likely only have off-label/import access, if any. This should be verified directly with CDSCO's own database before publishing a definitive claim either way.

What this means today

New treatments take years to reach patients, and many fail along the way. The treatments with the strongest evidence right now are still minoxidil and, for men, finasteride; for patchy hair loss, see alopecia treatments. Don't wait for a breakthrough if your hair loss is progressing. Find your likely cause.
