The short version: for minoxidil, what matters is the strength (2% or 5%) and the form (solution or foam). The brand name matters much less. In October 2026, a month of 5% solution cost anywhere from about ₹160 (Jan Aushadhi MRP) to over ₹1,100 for the same active ingredient.
Prices checked on 14 October 2026 on PharmEasy, Tata 1mg, Apollo Pharmacy, Netmeds, Clinikally, Healthkart and brand websites. "Price seen" is the selling price on that day; discounts change often, so check before you buy. We may earn a commission on some links, and that doesn't affect the order. Is there a difference between minoxidil brands?
Mostly no, as long as you compare the same strength and form. Differences that do matter:
- Base: most solutions contain a lot of alcohol (often 40–60%), and many contain propylene glycol, though Indian packs rarely say so. If your scalp itches, try a foam or an alcohol-free version.
- Added "boosters" (redensyl, procapil, caffeine, Aminexil): they raise the price but have much weaker evidence than minoxidil itself. → Minoxidil vs natural alternatives
- Licensing: buy from licensed pharmacies to avoid fakes and wrong strengths.
How to save money
- Buy plain 5% generic solution if it suits your scalp.
- Check your nearest Jan Aushadhi Kendra. Minoxidil 5% appears on the Jan Aushadhi list at an MRP of about ₹160 per 60 ml.
- Compare cost per month, not pack price. 100 ml packs make prices look higher than they are.
- Don't pay extra for 10%. There's no good evidence it beats 5%.
- Kits: check whether a kit is mostly minoxidil plus supplements and oils you might not need.
Prescription status: Indian pharmacies sell topical minoxidil with a soft "prescription where applicable" note rather than a clear "prescription required" label. A pharmacist must confirm the current rules before launch.
